Mister Free’d launches healthy tortilla chips in Waitrose and appoints Juliet Barratt as Chairwoman

Free from snack brand Mister Free’d, has launched  two varieties of its healthy tortilla chips range in Waitrose stores on 11th May. Mister Free’d, will be launching its Cheezie (vegan cheese) and Blue Maize in the free from aisle.

Separately, the company has also announced that Juliet Barratt, co-founder of UK-based sports nutrition snacks brand Grenade, has been appointed as its new Chairwoman. The appointment follows growth plans announced last year as part of an investment of £1.5m of growth capital into Freed Foods Limited, producers of Mister Free’d tortilla chips, by leading equity investor Panoramic Growth Equity.

“Google searches for ‘healthy snacks’ in the current climate are up 110%, according to medical advice service Flawless.org, so it’s a fantastic opportunity for us to expand our listings into Waitrose at this time” explains David Ventura, Co-Founder of Mister Free’d. “There is a real appetite for a tasty, healthy snacking experience and this represents a springboard for future growth.”

Juliet continues “Mister Free’d shows huge potential to be a leading challenger brand in both the free from and the mainstream snack market.”

Mister Free’d was set up in 2015 by Tomas Mesa and David Ventura. Both saw there was a gap in the gluten-free and vegan snack market  to establish a free from challenger brand, that delivered on taste. The ambition is to turnover £25m in 5 years and be the leading healthy snack brand in Europe. Mister Free’d tortilla chips are currently available in these six flavours: Cheezie, Blue Maize, Chia Seed, Kale and Spinach, Beetroot with Onion and Avocado Chili.

In addition to Waitrose, Mister Free’d is available online or in-store at Planet Organic, Whole Foods Market and As Nature Intended. Also available in over 200 independent stores across the UK . The company has also launched on Tryd Essentials (online store with e-cargo bike deliveries)
